Editor

From xSporeWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The editor will allow the player to modify just about anything on a planet, such as buildings, creatures, flora and vehicles.

The editor has an intuitive interface which, through a menu on the left, lets the user choose building blocks (limbs on characters, engines et cetera on vehicles, and so on) which then easily snap to points on the creature or object that you are currently modifying. Each building block can be morphed in various ways, such as changing the scale, rotation and dimensions. Many of them also have specific morph handles, the distance between toes on feet, for example.

The editor becomes available as soon as you start the game in the Tide Pool phase, in a very simple form. It will let you make a very basic creature which you then take control of. The editor becomes more advanced as you reach later phases.

Editor modes

The editors below were seen in the E3 2006 demonstration. Will Wright has said that the player will be able to edit nearly every aspect of the game universe.

Creature editor

The creature editor allows for a huge diversity of animals to be made in every imaginable way. In the editor there are a couple of pieces to deal with. First is the spine and main body. The spine can be stretched and turned with the mouse and the shape around the spine can be sculpted with the mouse wheel.

There are seven different categories of parts to choose from. In each category there are four columns of parts, and each column has eight or nine choices. Every column can be unlocked by purchasing the next level of brain using DNA points. Every part also has slider on them to augment them in different ways allowing the player to make a very unique creature.

Available palettes (categories) are:

  1. Mouths
  2. Sensory organs (Ears, eyes, noses, ...)
  3. Limbs (Arms, legs)
  4. Feet (Much older versions of the creature editor also show wings etc in this category)
  5. Unknown (Weapons, judging by the icon)
  6. Hands
  7. Accessories (Tails, ...)

Building editor

The building editor lets the player design buildings by adding various morphable building blocks and shaping them. The editor allows for many styles -- from industrial metal cities to mushroom cities.

Vehicle editor

Designs vehicles such as tanks and aircrafts. Most likely submarines as well. The different types of vehicles might just be seperated based on what building blocks the player puts on the vehicle (which could possibly allow for flying, amphibious vehicles).

Some categories of the vehicle editor include:

  • Various shapes (for the hull)
  • Mechanic legs
  • Propellers
  • Thrusters
  • Weapons
  • Wings
  • Wheels
  • And more

UFO editor

The UFO editor will probably let the player change the looks of the UFO.

Flora editor

The flora editor will let the player design various plantlife such as trees and flowers.

Hut editor

The hut editor is probably a simplified version of the building editor.

Terrain editor

Most, if not all of the terrain modification will be done using the UFO. It is possible that this editor mode is something which will not be available to the player in the finished game.
